You should treat everyone with RESPECT, until they give you any reason otherwise. Then, treat them with Decency – and leave it at that.
What is Respect?
“Respect” is to treat a person with sincerity (be truthful). Think of a person you respect as someone you’d be willing to help defend against unprovoked dangers or ill words directed at them. You’d be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. You might not even mind on occasion going out of your way or mildly inconveniencing yourself to do them a favor, such as running a reasonable errand for them.
What is Decency?
Decency is to do no harm. You won’t do any favors for them as they don’t deserve your time, but you are not going to say or do anything that would cause them harm. Unless you’ve been a victim of their ill-will, you’d be courteous enough to at least say hello, and move on.
The Otherwise
If for some reason a person unjustly directs their anger at you or those close to you in a non-violent way, just keep moving on and leave them to their own downfall. If someone acts violently against you or your close ones, stand your ground and defend yourself. Only step aside to use their momentum against them so they fall to the ground. If you’ve respected others, they will join in your defense and come to your aid.
